Boon Island Lighthouse Lamp

Built in 1852, Boon Island, at 133 feet high, is the tallest lighthouse in Maine. In February 1978, a violent coastal storm with waves of 70 feet in height smashed into the lighthouse and destroyed the keeper's house. In an amazing rescue, a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter was able to save the two keepers, who had taken refuge inside the light tower. Overall lamp height is 26".
