Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse Lamp
|
|
Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse has a very interesting past. Originally built in 1907 in Chicago, it was shipped down the Mississippi to the 1940 Exposition in St. Louis. After the Exposition ended, the lighthouse was purchased by the federal government and moved again to Hillsboro, Florida, where it sits today, as the last beach lighthouse erected in Florida. The 137-foot tower houses a second-order lens that emits a 5.5 million-candlepower light, a beacon that shines brightly to sea. Overall lamp height is 25".
